Taking a break

Updated: Jan 14, 2019

Although we’ve just started the winter semester, I’d bet that some of you (like me!) are already drowning in assignments. Before you get back to the grind, try taking a well-deserved break! I’m here to give you some break ideas that don’t involve binge-watching The Office on Netflix for the 8th time.

Get eating!

Luckily, you go to school in a city that is filled with a ton of delicious restaurants. If you’re looking for something to do in January, check out some of the Winterlicious restaurants with a friend! There are so many options for lunch and dinner with vegan and vegetarian menus, as well. For some more budget-friendly choices, you can check out my blog post for local restaurants with student discounts. Make sure you're eating healthy foods to fuel your brain! (But I won't judge if you reach for the Heluva Good dip...I'm probably doing the same).

Get creative!

If you're looking for a creative outlet on campus, Hart House offers a ton of different creative classes in things like that U of T students are able to take. Grad Escapes often offers art classes and musical theatre events as well! Keep an eye out on the bulletin boards throughout OISE, too, for any updates or promos that deal with creative classes or events.

Get moving!

Physical activity is another great way to get your mind off school, and it’s so important for your health. The Goldring Centre is just steps away from the doors of OISE, where they have gym equipment and drop-in classes! Why not try a yoga class held by OISE Wellness on Thursday afternoons? For some ideas on how to incorporate physical activity during the MT program, check out Jordan’s blog!

And if you're just looking for something to do that doesn't involve school, you can always take a walk, listen to a podcast, watch (a few) episodes of your favourite show, or even take a nap. No matter how you use your break time, make sure that you are taking a break! You deserve it!
